Irreversus

Irreversus is a work composed for a 7.1 surround speaker array. The piece uses a variety of stuttering, shuffling and gradually opening sounds to build into a light drum-and-bass section, before dropping completely to a series of long, low bass hits from all quadrants which build gradually as other elements are (re-)introduced until the piece reaches it’s climax. The spacialisation of the sounds highlights their disparaties and similarities in a way that is not possible on a traditional stereo setup, but a stereo mix is available.

The piece is named for the track Reversus by japanese producer ELECTROCUTICA, whose style was used as a benchmark during its composition. Many of the samples used to construct the piece were subjected to multiple instances of ‘destructive’ processing, involving processes which cannot be reversed easily if at all. between that and the many reversed sounds in the sound-palette of the piece it was a working title that just kind of stuck.
